the national weather service in pocatello has issued a
* flood warning for small streams in...
west central custer county in central idaho...
this includes the city of stanley...
* until 1000 am mdt saturday
* at 958 am mdt river gages on valley creek in the stanley basin
indicated that the combination of heavy rain and snow melt overnight
has pushed small creek and streamsto go above bankfull ... flooding
roads and property near these creeks.
* stanley basin ... including from state highway 21 northwest of the
town of stanley to the confluence of valley creek and the salmon
river near the stanley town center where state highway 21 meets
state highway 75.
a flood warning means that floodingis imminent or has been reported.
stream rises will be slow and flash flooding is not expected.
however ... all interested parties should take necessary precautions
immediately.
precautionary/preparedness actions...
most flood deaths occur in automobiles. never drive your vehicle into
areas where the water covers the roadway. flood waters are usually
deeper than they appear. just one foot of flowing water is powerful
enough to sweep vehicles off the road. this time of year the water
will be extremely cold as it combines with snow melt. this means
that persons immersed in cold watercan also suffer from
hypothermia. when encountering flooded roads make the smart
choice ... turn around ... dont drown.
flood waters are moving down valleycreek from northwest of stanley
along state route 21 to the town center of stanley ... including lower
stanley.
