Temple Isaiah Palm Springs

History of Temple Isaiah : On December 17, 1947, the Jewish Community
Center of Palm Springswas organized. Stanley Rosin was elected the
first President. By 1949, the Jewish Community Center/Temple Isaiah
was the outgrowth of the efforts of two organizations: the Palm
Springs Jewish Women's group and the Thursday Night Men's Club.
Meetings, club functions and religious school classes were held at
members' homes. They first organized in 1946. In 1949, Building Chair,
Leo Baker, submitted plans for a center that were drafted and then
presented to the congregation. Ground was broken, the late Rabbi Edgar
F. Magnin of Wilshire Boulevard Temple, L.A. and then Palm Springs'
Mayor Charles Farrell, turned the first shovels of earth. All this was
made possible by funds raised by members of the community. Site size,
225'-by-115', with seats for 350 and a social room for 150. The growth
ofour Temple/JCC made it imperativeto expand, and in 1987 Temple
Isaiah added the new Bochner Sanctuary, Tash/Agam Ark, Warsaw
Ballroom, Levy Hall, VenerReception Hall, and a new kitchen.Reverence
for our faith, allegianceto our country and respect for the beliefs of
others has been taught within these walls for more than half a
century. These principles will be our cornerstone as well,
forgenerations to come.
