Brush Fire Closes U.S. 17 South of Fort Meade
Officials are closing a section of U.S. 17 south of Fort Meade while
firefighters battle a 500- acre brush fire, Polk County Fire
Rescuesaid.
U.S. 17 from Bergquist Road to County Line Road is shut down until the
fire is under control, the Florida Highway Patrol reported.
The Polk Fire Rescue said there areno structures in the area that are
in danger. The cause of the fire is pending.

about three acres of brush and threatened several homes southwest of

Holmes Co Chicken House Fire
A morning fire destroyed a Homles County poultry house and threatened.

Shortly after nine o'clock Monday morning, a fast moving fire along
the Holmes-Walton county line destroyed a poultry house and threatened
another.
Firefighters from across both counties responded to the fire just
outside of Ponce De Leon.
Their objective was to keep the firefrom reaching more than 400
gallons of diesel fuel and other flammable material.
Poultry house owner Roger White immediately thought about the fuel
inside and the potential for loss of life and property.
Firefighters from across both counties successfully contained and
extinguished the blaze.
The blaze destroyed several vehicles and tractors located insidethe house.
The Florida Fire Marshal's Office will sift through the destroyed
house to determine a cause.
