St. Patrick's Day Parade Construction Embargo - March 15-17, 2012 A
special event construction embargo is in effect for the St. Patrick's
Day Parade starting at 12:01am Thursday, March 15, 2012through 11:59
pm Saturday, March 17, 2012. During this time frame only emergency
work may be performed provided an emergencynumber is received from the
New York City Department of Transportation. Any permits issued prior
to the date of this notice, are hereby suspended for the period of
March 15 through March 17, 2012. There will be strict enforcement of
this embargo and violators are subject to be summonsed. Utility cover
openingsare prohibited on roadways noted below between the hours of
6:00 AM and midnight unless the utility or contractor can prove an
emergency exists.

event construction embargo is in effect for the NYC Half Marathon
event. From 12:01am Friday, March 16 through 11:59pm Sunday, March 18,
2012 at the locations noted below only emergency work may be performed
provided an emergencynumber is received from the New York City
Department of Transportation. Any non-emergency permits issued prior
to the date of this notice are hereby suspended for the dates and

The Embargo Act of 1807 was a general embargo enacted by the United
States Congress [ 1 ] against Great Britain and France during the
Napoleonic Wars . [ 2 ]
The circumstances leading to the embargo arose from flagrant
violations of US neutrality , in which American merchantmen and their
cargo were seized as contraband of war by the belligerent European
navies. The British Royal Navy, in particular, resorted to impressment
, forcing thousands of American seamen into service on their warships.
[ 3 ] Great Britain and France, engaged in a life or death struggle
for control of Europe, rationalized the plunder of US shipping as
incidental to war and necessary for their survival. [ 4 ] The
Chesapeake-Leopard Affair was a particularly egregious example of
British aggression

NORTHERN IRELAND'S CUSTOMERS HELP REDUCE CARRIER BAG USAGE

Working together, leading supermarkets and their customers reduced the
number of carrier bags handed out in Northern Ireland by nearly 40 per
cent by the end of May 2009.
Having achieved a cut in bag numbers of 26 per cent across theUK by
the end of 2008 (comparedwith 2006 figures), Northern Ireland's
supermarket customers have made good progress. They have extended this
to a commendable 38 per cent reduction in just five months.
