Des Plaines Police Join DEA Nationwide Effort To Take-Back Prescription Drugs

The Des Plaines Police Departmentis partnering with the federal Drug
Enforcement Administration (DEA) and other government,
community,public health and law enforcement organizations in the
"National Take-Back Initiative" that seeks to prevent increased drug
abuse and theft. The Des Plaines Police will collect expired, unused
and unwanted prescription drugs for destruction from 10 AM – 2 PM,
Saturday, October 29, 2011 at the Des Plaines Police Station, 1418
Miner Street. Liquids and syringes will not be accepted in this
Take-Back Initiative. The service is free and anonymous, and no
questions will be asked. Destruction of the materials will be
accomplished in accordance with all applicable federal and state laws
and regulations.
On Saturday, April 30, 2011, there were over 5,300 medication
collection sites sponsored by the Drug Enforcement Administration
(DEA) which accepted unused, expired, and unwanted prescriptiondrugs
from community members in every state, Puerto Rico, and the US Virgin
Islands. Over 300,000 pounds of medication collected across the US.
