Fires continue to break out in Colorado strong winds and in a number forecast thunderstorms hampered the area leading prospects of dry lighting fire cause

Several fires break out near Aspen Park, Keystone and in Morgan County

JEFFERSON COUNTY - A fire burning out of control southeast ofAspen
Park that has authorities concerned is one of several that broke out
on Monday afternoon ashigh wind gusts swept over the Front Range.
Authorities have not ordered any evacuations.
Jefferson County Sheriff's Office spokesperson Jacki Kelley says
theLower North Fork Fire is now morethan 15 acres and is burning in an
area known as Reynolds Park on Buffalo Creek Road near Foxton and
River roads.
Kelley says the fire is from a prescribed burn by the Colorado Forest
Service that was set last week and it has "escaped."
Elk Creek and North Fork Fire Departments are on scene and no air
support has been called. The U.S. Forest Service is sending two hand
crews to help fight the fire.
The fire is burning on Denver Water Board land.
Because of the fire, South Foxton Road is closed from Reynolds Ranch
south to the river. Forest Road 550 is also closed to BuffaloCreek.
Kelley says another fire in JeffersonCounty, the Sawmill Gulch Fire,
has the potential to cause evacuations. The fire is burning in trees
on Lookout Mountain and she did nothave any size. The fire is on
Grapevine south I-70 at Sawmill Gulch.
She says there are no evacuations at this time but that could change.
The fire has the potential to be close to homes.
She says there is no air support because of the high winds.
US 40 was closed in the Lookout Mountain area due to a grass fire but
it has reopened.
Boulder and Weld County fires
The Mountain View Fire Department was fighting five separate fires in
Weld and Bouldercounties on Monday afternoon.
One was a barn fire at Highway 52and County Line Road in Weld County.
Mountain View says the fire did about $2,500 worth of damage to the
barn.
Another fire was at Highway 287 and Plateau in Boulder County.
Authorities say it was a controlled burn on an illegal flag day. They
are not concerned about it at this time and will put it out when
resources are available.
Authorities only had the locations of the three other fires: One was
along Highway 66 in Weld County, another was at Weld County Roads7 and
18 and the other was at County Line Road and Weld County Road 18.
Morgan County fires
Several other fires are burning in Morgan County, according to the
Wiggins Fire Department. Firefighters are battling several fires
keeping the Wiggins, Fort Morgan and Brush Fire Departments busy.
Wiggins Fire responded to a haystack fire near Interstate 76 at mile marker 64.
Authorities also say that visibility onseveral sections of Highway 34
is down to less than one mile due to blowing dust.
Fire near Keystone
In the high country, Lake Dillon Fireis responding to a fire 3 miles
eastof Keystone on Montezuma Road. The fire is burning in River
Mountain Valley and there is no word on the cause.
Authorities say it is windy in the area and while there is snow on the
ground, the south-facing slopes are dried out.
The Summit County Wildfire Task Force and several other fire agencies
are also responding.
Wind conditions
The combination of dry, warm and gusty conditions forecast for Monday
have prompted the National Weather Service to issue aRED FLAG WARNING,
in effect from 10 a.m. until 7 p.m. Monday.
Southwesterly wind gusts to 65 mph are expected in the foothills west
of Denver and along the Palmer Divide. Gusts to 50 mph are possible
near Denver, Boulder, Fort Collins, Greeley and along the entire
Eastern Plains.
A WIND ADVISORY is in effect for mountain areas west of the
Continental Divide. Southwesterly winds will gust to 65 mph at
higherelevations near Vail, Snowmass and Crested Butte, while lower
elevations near Eagle, Carbondale and Fruita can expect gusts to 50
mph.
A HIGH WIND WARNING is in effect for northwest Colorado from9 a.m.
until 8 p.m. Monday. Locations near Dinosaur, Craig andMeeker can
expect southwesterly wind gusts to 65 mph
