Tourism Up In Home Of Tea Party
The Mansion House Leading publicfigures have afternoon tea on Friday,
16 March at The Mansion House, Old Warden, Bedfordshire.
Leading politicians, public officials and business people will have a
power tea party on Friday (16 March) to find ways to build on
Bedfordshire's booming tourist trade.
The meeting will also establish howto exploit economic opportunities
from this year's London Olympic Games.
Councillor Ken Matthews, Executive Member for Sustainable Communities,
Strategic Planning and Economic Development said:"Central Bedfordshire
has really made its mark on Britain's tourist map with recent news
over Center Parcs securing funding for its fantastic new development
near Woburn.
"And as Central Bedfordshire is thehome of English Afternoon Tea,
wethought it would be a great way to celebrate the area's recent
successand discuss how to exploit any Olympic opportunities."
The Experience Bedfordshire event also celebrates English Tourist
Week. Tourism is a £800 million business in Bedfordshire which pulls
in over 10,800,000 visitors a year and employs around 14,000 people
employed in the area - approximately 5 percent of the workforce.
Afternoon tea was invented in Bedfordshire when Anna Maria Russell,
the 7th Duchess of Bedford, complained to her butler at Woburn Abbey
of "having that sinking feeling" during the late afternoon.
The solution for the Duchess was apot a tea and a light snack, taken
privately in her boudoir during the afternoon.

With 50 delegates throwing their support to Dettenrieder in the race
for Teller County commissioner, Brian Walker captured 38 delegates and
moves ahead to the primary election. With just 12 delegates, Carl Poch
was knocked out of theelectoral race to represent the district south

In Woodland Park's District 3, Norm Steen took 73 delegates to Bill
Miller's 27, three short of the required number. However, Steen still
faces Ken Matthews, who skipped the assembly and is petitioning for
his place on the ballot.
The candidates have more than three months to campaign before the

In his research on the organ market in Bangladesh, which was recently
published by the Medical Anthropology Quarterly , the assistant
professor of anthropology and faculty memberof the Center for Ethics
and Humanities in the Life Sciences said organ brokers and the
mediatake advantage of the people in desperate need of money and
manipulate them into selling their organs to local or overseas
residents.
But many poor people's lives are destroyed once they sell their
kidneys, and they often are paid far less than promised.
Moniruzzaman has been working on this research for about 10 years and
spent about a year in Bangladesh interviewing victims ofthe black
market for organs, he said.
"These people are having serious psychological problems, like
depression," Moniruzzaman said of the poor's exploitation from organ
donations. "In one case I found, (a donor) wanted to commit suicide
because of socialistic humiliation." As the Cayman Islands awaits a
